This temple has a history of 133 years. It was established by 1885 and Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka thera was initiated. This is made of mixed architecture, what is that mixed architecture? Those are Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian and Chinese architecture. This temple organizes beautiful religious festivals. Itâ€™s located in Colombo city. Itâ€™s surrounded by the Beira Lake itâ€™s a very beautiful scene for all of us.
This temple has a historical museum. To bring it to this situation Venerable Sri Jinarathana Nayaka thera was took the lead, as result this was started. They have so many religious statues, Buddha statues they are of cultural and historical value. There are ancient Ola leaf writing books, valuable old coins, vehicles and many other things to see.
As I said earlier they celebrating a beautiful and colorful religious festivals, it is the Vesak festival, they are celebrating it by of the birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Lord Buddha. Buddha Rashmi Vesak festival is the most attracted and largest religious festival in Sri Lanka. Beira Lake and temple area coloring by millions of lights, vesak lanterns are nice to see. When you see it, you cannot believe in the heart.
This is one of the main events in Sri Lanka that was Annual Nawammaha Perahera. It will be held in February. Hundreds of Tuskers are wearing elegant costumes and they walk with pride, traditional drummers, dancers, flutists and many performers are showing their skills. This can be pleasure to watch.
