Hikkaduwa beach is a very beautiful and popular destination where you can relax as an international tourist. The name Hikkaduwa is trusted to have been derived from the two words ‘Ship Kaduwa’. Ship means the shorter version of Shilpaya which refers to knowledge in Sinhalese and kaduwa: means sword. So it is thought that the meaning behind the name Hikkaduwa is ‘sword of knowledge’
